Friday, May 3- Writing

Dear Future Me,    As graduation approaches school and the work seem to get harder, I think it’s related to the fact that its so close to being over. The situation now is causing me to be tired and frustrated at how slowly the time seems to move. It also annoys me that I feel in such a way about something that is about to be over and set in stone. Through high school I don’t feel I made many accomplishments but overall am satisfied that we managed to finish school. For the moment I am not too sure about continuing to pursue education after high school, but I don’t expect that to be a permanent decision and would like to see myself pick something eventually. Some valuable advice that I would give my younger self after experiencing high school is to just do the bare minimum, I learned that it took more effort to put myself in an unsteady position than it did to recover from it and make up work. Also, that socializing is important to developing skills that can be used ou...

Today in class we did an assignment where we created our own poems based on an image that could appeal to the human senses. What i learned from this activity was how to use literary devices to express messages in a text, I can use this information to breakdown different types of devices and understand the proper way to use them. Class was long since we had a block schedule.

Today we read another poem by William Carlos Williams called "This is just to say". What I learned from todays lesson is the use of certain language makes a text be perceived differently depending on the person. The speaker in the text appeared to be apologetic but certain phrases made it apparent that the short poem carried sarcasm.  How this can be used in the future is when encountering text where the true intentions and not readily apparent. Tuesday was a busy day where i had a lot of work but it was okay.

Monday, April 29th

In class we went over a short poem by William Carlos Williams called The Red wheelbarrow. What I learned from todays lesson was that short poems can still create imagery and have double meanings hidden withing their lines. How this information can be used is to further break down poems and text even when there isn't a lot of text to breakdown. What I liked from that lesson was that the poems were not complex yet had greater meaning behind them. Monday was tiring and casual day

Today we answered questions based on pages 136-146 in the Sorrows of War. What we learned from this assignment was to understand how to determine what the author is trying to interpret through their writing. This knowledge can be used to answer questions not related to what is going on in the book but what the book is trying to say. What I disliked about the lesson was that it was hard to comprehend that we should not focus on the story but the topic of the book. Today was an okay day but slow start to the week.

Friday, Jan 26

We presented the work we did for our roles in our literacy groups over the reading of "the sorrows of war". What we learned during this lesson was to speak and express what each of us had done depending on our role and how to present in front of the class. This is a lesson that can be used to better public speaking and showing that we analyzed the text. Something i struggled with was remembering what was on my drawing for presentation time.

Wednesday, Jan 24th

We continued reading in our literacy group while filling out a sheet of the main topics the group discussed between every 2 pages. The lesson that we learned within our groups was to focus on our opinions of the text rather than restating it while discussing what emotions or thoughts we had about it. This knowledge could be used when trying to describe a text to someone without revealing details that occur in the text. What I struggled with was wording the emotions I felt towards the text. I came in for half a day so it felt more relaxed then usual.
